Home-office wallpaper has to do two jobs at once: not distract you during deep work, and read flattering behind you on video calls. The two requirements pull in opposite directions if you don't plan.
The deep-work wall (in front of the desk)
The wall you face while working should be quiet — a grasscloth, a tonal small-pattern, or a deep solid colour. Anything with sharp contrast or large pattern fights concentration over hours.
The camera wall (behind the desk)
The wall behind your chair shows up on every video call. This is where the office gets its personality — a pattern, a tonal botanical, an architectural mural. Choose something that reads cleanly at 720p webcam resolution.
Acoustic considerations
Grasscloth and other textured wallcoverings dampen high-frequency reflections noticeably. In a small office with hard floors, textured paper on two walls audibly improves call audio quality.
