Charcoal is the designer's instrument for discipline, shadow, and elegance. It can sharpen a weak room, modernize traditional architecture, or give depth to spaces that would otherwise feel washed out. Benjamin Moore describes gray as an ultimate neutral, ranging from misty pale tones to dramatic onyx, with darker shades such as charcoal adding depth and refined elegance.
